New Logo for 2009

As some of you may already know, Janet became the Osprey back in 2003 when she entered her first Furnace Creek 508 race. During the race, racers are tracked via an animal totem instead of a race number which adds some fun to the whole event. Each rider has images of their totem on their support vehicles and some even do wood cutouts mounted to the top of the vehicles.

However, a totem is much more than a simple race number. When you take on a Furnace Creek 508 totem you kind of embody yourself into it and it becomes part of you. For me it was the Onager - an Asiatic fast moving wild ass. For Janet it has been the Osprey and she has been silently chasing down her prey ever since. If you watched any of the RAAM interviews with Janet out on the course, they often used terms like elusive - that's the Osprey in her.
